eDrum kit almost complete
I’m just about done setting up my new eDrum kit and I’ll eventually post pictures and such.
After getting a pretty good deal on a used Pintech kit, I scored 4 eCymbals from a guy on eBay but apparently they were lost by the shipping company (long story, don’t ask). So I got a refund (less PayPal fees – lame) and ordered a 3 pack of Pintech cymbals (14″, 16″, 18″) through my buds at Midwest Percussion and prior to that I ordered a 16″ ride with bow/bell triggers.
I received the ride yesterday – drop shipped from Pintech and it works fairly well. I’m having a problem getting the bell to trigger properly. If I strike the cymbal normally I’ll get the normal ride sound, but when striking harder it’ll trigger the bell – the bell should be triggered by hitting the bell of the cymbal. I’m still tweaking settings and such and have an email into their tech support. I just can’t wait to get the other cymbals to round out the kit. The cool thing is I can assign any sound I want to anything on the kit. So if I want a cymbal to sound like a cowbell or bongo or tambourine I can do that. Fun!
I also ordered new mesh heads as the ones on the kit are either worn out, stretched, or just plain old. When I received the kit and initially set it up the snare head was stretched so far that the hoop was cutting into the trigger jack and the drum didn’t even trigger (the head was squishing the trigger). I loosened it a bit and that got it working again. The new heads should help everything out.
Later on I plan on getting a new warranty from Pintech ($45) as that’ll allow me to eventually update the triggers to the latest models for about $10 each (normally $20+). But for some of the work (in-line gain control), I’d have to ship the pads into Pintech for the upgrade. It’s something I’ll eventually do but not right now.
Overall I’m really happy with the kit. I’m loving the sounds and how customizable it is. I’m thinking of swapping out the drum rack that came with it with my Gibraltar rack from my acoustic kit (or doing some Frankenstein setup). With all the pads and cymbals and such, it’s getting crowded. I’ll also have to get the cable situation straightened out as well. If you can imagine a cable coming out of every pad and cymbal and then connecting to the module (brain). It’s like spaghetti!
Hopefully I’ll have some photos up in a few days.
