Weekend Project: Door Desk

Since Tracy is leaving with the monkeys Thursday for Minnesota to visit my little sister Katie, I’m going to hopefully build my “door desk“.

Since buying my my drum kit, I’ve been itching to revamp my office space. I have a computer work center that’s just chewing up space and in general the room’s a mess; drums, a treadmill, my computer stuff, papers, boxes – it’s almost a Clean Sweep emergency. But I have a plan.

I’ve seen shows on HGTV or TLC where they converted a door into a desk. I just think that’s a really cool idea. I been looking around at ideas and since I can’t seem to find a salvaged one, I went to Menards and bought a simple 80″x30″ hollow core door. I also picked up some nice stain/polyurethane to finish it.

My next plan of attack is to create shelving units on either side for added storage and to house my PC and to serve as the foundation for the desktop (door). I also saw a great idea of using peg board to shore up your electronic devices and cables which I might implement.

I will say I’m not very savvy when I comes to woodworking, but I think this is something that I can handle. I did manage to design and help build my entertainment center so I should be able to build some shelves and attach a door to it.

There’s plenty of work to do like dismantle my current setup, play some Xbox, clean up, play some Xbox, build the desk, play some Xbox, put it all back together, play some Xbox, etc…  I think Tracy will have the camera for the weekend, so I won’t be able to take progress pictures but I’ll post pictures when it’s done.
