What’s up? Where I’ve been.

Monday, January 19th, 2009

Man.. I’ve neglected this blog for a while. I’ve been busy with a number of things:

  1. Finally finished Oblivion + Shivering Isles. I got all achievements except one in Shivering Isles – don’t feel like going back and getting it either. I had close to 140hrs and over 1100 saves. I really enjoyed the game, but stopped exploring about 80hrs in and just wanted to get it done – so I jumped from point to point. I think I ended up with my character on level 41.
  2. Been working on my drums a lot since joining a blues band (working name; Straight Jack and the Ettes). Playing along with the set list, buying PA speakers (JBL EON 15 G2), new parts, new triggers, etc… getting things ready to start playing out. First gig should be Feb 21.
  3. Letting my Xbox Live subscription expire and roll back to a Silver account. I just don’t play on-line enough to justify it right now. I have a literal ton of games that I have to play through and multi-player isn’t feasible right now. I’m too competitive and don’t like loosing. Plus I never seem to have enough time to devote to it. (Yes… I know Amazon and others are selling the 12+1mo sub for $30).
  4. Been having fun on FaceBook.
  5. Life in general has been challenging.

So there you have it. I’d like to think I’m going to pay more attention to the blog here; maybe update the site, but we’ll see.

Twas the night before Christmas…

… and all throughout the blog – McWillams was wishing he didn’t eat so much at his in-laws.

Just a quick post to say Merry Christmas. May the New Year find you great success, happiness, great video games, and loads of freebie offers that complete quickly (Ha! Ha! Ha! Had to throw that one in there!).

New theme

In preperation for my new Xbox-related project, I’ve updated my theme. I’m still doing some heavy tweeking, so if you see something funky happening…refresh or just subscribe to my feed.

Server Move

Thursday, August 16th, 2007

I just moved mWorld over to my new host; Godaddy.com.  I got tired of Zeeder (whom I was with for a few years – for free) going up and down unexpectedly. I also have a project I’m about to launch on the Xbox gaming community and I want to make sure I have the bandwidth in place. Zeeder had a pretty good deal; 100mb space, 5gb bandwidth, cPanel, etc… I only paid $10 for setup. They no longer offer that package…but I grew tired of the hassles. Now I have 10x that capacity for about $80 for 3 years! I plan to get some freebie cash to pay off the expense (notice that Fusion Cash link on the right? That’s how I’ll do it).

Well, here’s to better hosting all around!

Feedburner test

Feedburner’s giving me a rash. This is a test.

All better now thanks to the wonderfully fast assistance at FeedBurner support.

Do a search for yourFree360Games…guess who comes up?

Friday, February 2nd, 2007

Your’s truly. Okay, I’m in the top five. Not that it benefits me anything by being that high in the rankings, but it shows I’ve guessed that site (yourFree360Games.com) and blogged about it a lot.

That’s all.

MWorld offline for a few hours last night

Friday, November 3rd, 2006

Well that was scary!

Around 8pm last night I logged onto my server and discovered that WordPress is freaking out about not being able to connect to the database. So I check my cPanel and jump into the MySql section and NO DATABASES ARE SHOWING!!! My stats still show that I have data sitting in the database so that’s good.

So I checked with my host and the issue seems to be system wide as I can’t even submit a ticket, so I fired off an email to their tech support. I received this this around 2:30am:

Yes, something did definitely go wrong with Mysql today. Unfortunately, the logs are not giving up any secrets at this point, but we’re still looking into the cause. The server has been running for a couple hours now without incident, but we’ll be keeping an eye on it in case something pops up again.

It doesn’t look like there’s been any data loss at the database level. Whatever web applications were trying to write to the database are another story, obviously. Please do let us know if you see any problems that are not fixed at this point.

Well, at least I’m back up. I hate it when that happens.
