McWilliamsWorld.com: Record Number of Visits!

Friday, September 1st, 2006

This may not seem like a lot to those that have popular blogs but last month, mWorld received over 2500 visits and over 500 unique visitors. Back in Jan, I had only about 900 visitors. My web stats have been increasing month to month. On average I have about 80+ visitors a day.

I also just signed up over at FeedBurner to get a better handle on how my RSS feeds are being accessed – you do subscribe don’t you?

Thanks to all that visit.

mWorld outage/issues

Wednesday, August 16th, 2006

I experienced some odd happenings on the site today. I was getting a virus warning regardging a VBS/Psyme virus being executed by Internet Explorer. My anti-virus blocked it but I figured either my web host is infected or something hacked my site.

Not knowing what was going on I turned off DNS to my host just in case my site was the culprit. I quickly shot off an email to my host’s support, and they claim everything’s okay on their end. So it could be an issue with the proxy server at work somehow (it gets flaky at times).

At the moment all seems well. Keeping my fingers crossed.

New Skin: mWorld 2

Tuesday, August 8th, 2006

Just updated mWorld with a new style. I’m still tweeking some items so you may see some odd things or may notice things just don’t look quite right. Hang in there – I’m working on it.

Odd Web Stats

Monday, August 7th, 2006

I like checking over my web stats frequently. I like to see how many people hit my site and where they’re coming from or if a search directed them to my site.

Last month I nearly had 2000 visits and of those visits over 600 were unique. The highest I’ve ever had so far. Average visits per day range from 50 to 100.

The odd thing I’ve been noticing is that I’ve been getting referral hits from Disney.com. In past months I’ve noticed 5 hits or so, but as of this writing, I saw 16. What is going on here? I tried doing a search over at Ask.com and Google for; “mcwilliamsworld site:disney.com” but no results are returned. Only thing I can possibly think of is that my kids are signed-up over there with my domain name or somehow, someone’s spoofing the Disney address. I even did a search for “Disney” and “Web Stats” over at Jake’s, but he didn’t have any tips regarding the anomaly.

Strange stuff.

WordPress 2.0

Monday, January 2nd, 2006

Just upgraded mWorld to WordPress 2.0.  Seems to be a bit quicker and streamlined; the admin screens are far easier to get around then in the last version. Thanks for the great job everyone at WordPress did on this last release. Upgrading was fairly simple. The process took me about 15min to back everything up, make copies of files I modified, upload the new site, and preform the upgrade. Everything seems to be in good working order. Yeah!

Imported all old posts

Friday, November 25th, 2005

It took a while, but I just finished up importing all my old posts from when I was being hosted at memebot.com. I had to manually copy and past them into WordPress and adust the date to match the post. Took about and hour to get it done.

I think I worked out most of the kinks in WordPress to match what I want mWorld to look like. There’s still some fine tuning to do but it’s nothing major.

Hosting switch

Wednesday, November 23rd, 2005

Well, I just switched my DNS records to point to my new host – Zeeder.com. Got a great deal on hosting; ad free, 100mb of web space, 5gb of monthy traffic, a slew of features – all for a one time setup fee of $5. If you check now the fee is $10 so I just squeeked in under the old plan.

Setup took a bit of time since they were apparently swapping servers. They were fairly quick to respond to my requests, so I’m happy about it. It’s more than enough space for me and mWorld.

The big challenge now is to learn the ins and outs of WordPress. It’s a blogging package for those that don’t know. There’s a bunch of scripts and special tags to pull certain parts together so I’m taking a crash course through the code and getting mWorld wrapped around it. So in the meantime, you may see some odd things happening here till all has been straightened out.
