McWilliams’ World

I’m currently working on moving to a new hosting company (zeeder.com) and am trying to setup my blog. You may see some oddities for a few days till I get my arms around WordPress.

Looks like I’m over my limit for web traffic. You must really like me.

I’m working on a new solution that should give me plenty of room.

Hang in there…could be bumpy!

Well? Heh? Heh? How do you like the new mWorld? Pretty dang sweet if you ask me. You’ll notice two cool new aditions:

• Captain Betty (in the upper right corner). He’ll spout off some goofy phrase on every visit
• Xbox Live Gamer Card (top of the right column). Although not incredibly useful untill I have my Xbox 360, but you’ll soon be able to see what games I’m currently playing, what my ranking (or “rep”) is, and a host of other cool stats
• mWorld RSS feed is available. Now you can subscribe to mWorld and catch the updates in your favorite RSS reader.

I’ll also be posting a little history of Captain Betty and page on how to get an Xbox 360 for FREE.

I still have a bit of tweaking to do as the comment section, archives and individual articles haven’t received the full-treatment. But it’ll get there.

Man that was annoying! My host, memebot.com, seems to have been off-line for a few days, causing my site to be down.

I’m working on a slightly updated look for the site, but it’s hard to dedicate any amount of real time to it.

Work’s been a bit slow as a few projects have been completed and another is just about wrapped up. Bemis Europe will be getting their new site in about a week or so. I did some custom scripting to handle multiple languages (french, german, italian, polish, spanish, and finnish) – which will be coming at a later time but I figured I better get the site prepared for it. So if all goes well, I won’t have to duplicate a hundred pages and just use a few as I’m dyanmically changing the language, and the data at the same time. Pretty cool.

I just replaced my Xbox’s dvd drive tonight with one I bought off eBay (about $27/shipped). I had to replace it since about 60% of the time my game would freeze and get an error about the disc being dirty or damanged. Well, I know that my disc are in good condition so I’m blaming the dvd drive. So far, so good. The guy gave be a 90day warranty so we’ll see. I’m going to give it a thurough testing tonight and over the weekend to see if it hicups at all. I’m going to contact the seller though – since he said it was factory new, it did have some scuff marks on the label which makes me wonder. However, he’s got well over 1000+ possitive feedback and did take the time to answer my questions before hand. I should be okay.

Anyways, I’m glad my host is still alive and kicking – sure like to know what the heck happened. Site update will happen soon.

Welcome to the new McWilliams’ World.

“New McWilliams’ World?” you ask.

Well yeah. Prior to what you’re seeing here, I hosted my own web site from home, with my own content management system and all. It was fun, but slowy became a pain to maintain.

The straw that broke the camel’s back happened this weekend when I decided to attempt to install Linux on my server…after a failed install and several other failed attempts and several other Linux distributions later…I had to hang it up.

Luckilly I found MemeBot which does free web hosting with webloging and WiKi’s. I was able to apply my new style and modify their default template in about 1hr – ofcourse it helps to know what the hell you’re doing in the first place.

Anyways…just wantted to say, “Welcome to the new McWilliams’ World!”
