iTWire – Microsoft to release HD DVD Xbox in 2006: Toshiba exec
My response…So what? Yeah it’d be cool, but MS will not be releasing games on a HDDVD; it can only be used for movies, plus it’d raise the cost of the unit. Won’t happen. You’ll see an external HDDVD drive, as MS announced at E3 for around $150.
And straight from the horse’s mouth over at GamerScoreBlog.com. See, I told you!

Sony to win with Blu-ray by sticking to its guns – iTWire
Yeah…from the same site (must be a trend). When has any company succeeded with a product that nobody wanted to buy? Oh I’m sure there’s some examples but Sony doesn’t have a good track record when it comes to competing formats.
What does “sticking to its guns” have to do with Blu-ray succeeding? Sony doesn’t seem to be giving-up-the-ghost yet. Are they suddenly going to say, “Ach…we give up! We can’t tough it out!”? But I will guarantee that they will stop selling them if the market no longer wants it or some other format wins out **HD DVD**. But in about 3-5 years and a standard has been settled on (and it may not be Blu-ray), will Sony continue to “stick to its guns” even though nobody wants it? That’d be the stupidest business decision in the world! Give me a break.
This whole competing formats thing is a double-edged sword. Not only does the format need to win the approval of the movie studios, they need to win the pocket books of the consumer. This will all shake out in 3-5 years; we’ll see if Sony’s still “sticking to its guns” then.
